SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE ADVANCES TO FIRST GAC MEN’S TITLE GAME

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State placed five players in double figures as the Savage Storm advanced to the title game of the Great American Conference Men’s Basketball Championships with an 87-68 victory against Oklahoma Baptist in Saturday’s second semifinal from Bruin Fieldhouse.
Adam Dworsky led the Savage Storm (22-6) as he scored a game-high 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including 3-for-3 from beyond the 3-point arc. He added nine assists and committed only one turnover. GAC Player of the Year Kevin Buckingham registered his league-leading 13th double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. He hit 8-of-13 from the floor.
Oklahoma Baptist (16-14) held a 26-21 lead with five minutes remaining in the first half before Southeastern went on a 17-7 run to close out the half. Buckingham, Dworsky and Kellen Manek combined to score 15 of those 17 points and the Savage Storm carried a five-point advantage into the break.
In the second half, Southeastern shot 63.3 percent from the field and went 8-for-14 from the 3-point arc. Kayo Goncalves, Dworsky and Jett Jobe combined to make all seven of their 3-point attempts. They salted away the victory with a 21-4 run that spanned more than six minutes late in the half.
Three Bison - Brantly Thompson, Mohammed Abubaker and Harrison Stoddart – reached double digits in scoring, led by 17 from Thompson. He went 4-for-8 from the 3-point arc. Abubakar converted 8-of-11 from the floor as he scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
The Savage Storm will face in Southern Nazarene in Sunday’s final, scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start. The Savage Storm handed the Crimson Storm two of their four league losses. Southeastern won by 33 at home and by four on road – a victory that ended Southern Nazarene’s 25-game home win streak.
