RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s fifth weekly awards for the 2019 softball season. Southern Arkansas’ Elisa Favela claimed both the Player and Pitcher honors; Henderson State’s Ashlyn Taylor earned the Freshman accolade.
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Elisa Favela, Southern Arkansas, DP, Jr., Ewa Beach, Hawaii
Favela carried the Lady Mulerider offense to a four-game sweep against Northwestern Oklahoma State as she went 8-for-12 in the series. On Friday, she collected five hits in the two victories and she drove in four runs. On Saturday, she hit her first home run of the season and scored three runs. She raised her average from .227 to .321 during the four-game set.
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Elisa Favela, Southern Arkansas, RHP, Jr., Ewa Beach, Hawaii
Favela dominated inside the circle against Northwestern Oklahoma State as she tossed a pair of no-hitters, the third and fourth no-hitters already registered by SAU pitching this season. She struck out 10 and allowed only two base runners on Friday. On Saturday, she struck out six in the 10-0 five-inning victory.
GAC SOFTBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – Ashlyn Taylor, Henderson State, SS, Arkadelphia, Arkansas
Taylor continues her stellar opening month of play as she hit .545 in the Reddies’ series with Oklahoma Baptist. She collected three hits on both Friday and Saturday. She doubled three times, scored three runs and drove in six runs. We played flawless defense at shortstop as she handled 10 chances without an error.

Demi Dobbs, IF, Oklahoma Baptist (Collecting four hits and four RBI on Saturday vs Henderson State); Briley Feringa, C, Harding (Hit .429 with a pair of home runs and eight RBI against East Central); Jacey Henry, UT, East Central (Tallied seven hits, including two home runs, against Harding); Natalie Jackson, 2B, Ouachita (Homered and scored six runs against Southern Nazarene); Riley Kalman, SS, Southern Nazarene (Hit three home runs and drove in runs against Ouachita); Ashton Sangster, OF, Arkansas Tech (Posted a .667 on-base percentage vs Southeastern Oklahoma State)
Mallory Brewer, LHP, Henderson State (Threw a five-hit shutout vs Oklahoma Baptist); Emma Dwyer, RHP, Harding (Went 1-0 with a save against ECU); Megan Goodnight, RHP, Arkansas Tech (Registered a 2.76 ERA in 12.1 IP vs Southeastern); Kelsey O'Brien, RHP, Ouachita (Struck out nine in two appearances against Southern Nazarene)
Lauren Bazan, 3B, Harding (Went 7-for-15 and scored three runs); Sarah Evans, SS, Southern Arkansas (Scored five runs vs Northwestern Oklahoma State); Tymber Riley, 2B, Arkansas Tech (Collected her first two hits of her career - both home runs)
