HARDING LEADS AT #theGAC WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

 SHAWNEE, Okla. – Led by victories by Emily Shell and Alicja Minczuk, Harding finished Friday atop the team standings at the 2019 Great American Conference Women’s Track & Field Championships from Oklahoma Baptist’s Eddie Hurt Jr. Memorial Track.

Shell won the heptathlon with a GAC Championship-record 4,483 points. The Lady Bisons produced the top three finishers as Kaylin Turley placed 35 points behind Shell and Darcy Sanford took third. Minczuk set a GAC Championship record in the steeplechase by defending her title with a time of 11:18.62. Harding tallied 63 points in the team competition.
 
Oklahoma Baptist placed second after the five events, followed by Southern Arkansas. The Lady Bison’s Kayle Crowson dominated in the 10,000-meter run, winning by almost 90 seconds. SAU’s T’Keyah Crockett won the hammer throw with a mark of 51.00m on her final attempt of the event.
 
Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Zarin Goodrich won the first individual GAC Championship in program history as she placed first in the javelin. She unleashed a throw of 40.02m to break the GAC Championship record by almost 2.0 meters.
 
The Lady Bison, the 2018 GAC Champions, trail Harding by 24 points. Southern Arkansas tallied 21 points; Northwestern Oklahoma State scored 14 followed by East Central, 10 points, and Oklahoma Christian, eight points.
 
The GAC Championships conclude on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. with six field events – the long jump, high jump, discus, shot put, pole vault and triple jump – and 10 running events – the 400-meter relay, 1500, 100-meter and 110-meter hurdles, 400, 100, 800, 400-meter hurdles, 200, 5000 and 1600-meter relay.
