BISON USE LONG BALL TO DEFEAT WONDER BOYS AT #theGAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

ENID, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist hit three home runs and all nine starters recorded at least one base hit as the Bison defeated Arkansas-Monticello, 8-5, in Monday’s completion of game six of the Great American Conference Baseball Championships from David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
Play resumed with the Bison (31-19) holding a 4-1 fourth-inning lead. Eric Carlson and Kaimana Bartolome hit two the team’s three home runs during Sunday’s action. In the sixth, Jake Gozzo took over sole possession of the GAC home run lead when he hit a sole shot over the left field wall for his 19th home run of the season. The Bison tacked on a sixth run when Ramon Enriquez scored on a double play ball.
After Arkansas Tech (29-22) scratched across a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, Oklahoma Baptist answered with two in the top of the seventh. Carlson walked with the bases loaded to force in Garrett McKee and PJ Harris scored on a wild pitch.
Arkansas Tech rallied for three runs in the eighth and had the bases loaded for Dylan McDearmon. Bison Head Coach Bobby Cox called on Andrew Eppenbach to quell the Wonder Boy threat. He induced a routine fly ball to Gozzo the end the frame. Eppenbach worked around a two-out single to earn his first save of the season.
In relief, Hudson Pearson improved to 5-1. He allowed a run in 2.1 innings of work. Jake Lipetzky started and struck out six in 3.0 innings of work before the rain came. Layton Robinson started and suffered the loss for the Wonder Boys.
The Bison face a quick turnaround as they face Arkansas-Monticello in Monday’s first full contest. Arkansas Tech takes on rival Harding in Monday’s nightcap. They square off 45 minutes after the completion of the Oklahoma Baptist-Arkansas-Monticello affair.
