OKLAHOMA BAPTIST WINS 2019 GAC BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

 ENID, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist completed an undefeated run through the 2019 Great American Conference Baseball Championships as the Bison defeated Harding, 12-3, on Tuesday from the David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
 
Tournament MVP Jake Lipetzky pitched into the eighth inning to pick up his sixth win of the season. He allowed two runs and gave up six hits in 7.1 innings of work. He struck out five. In two GAC Championship appearances, he posted a 2.61 ERA with 11 strikeouts. He held opponents to a .216 average.
 
At the plate, the Bison (33-19) offense got kick started in the third inning. Jake Gozzo plated the first run with a double down the left field line. Ramon Enriquez followed with his own doubled down the line to score Garrett McKee and Gozzo.
 
After Harding (34-21) and Oklahoma Baptist each plated single runs in the fifth inning, the Bison broke the game in sixth inning. Enriquez ripped a three-run home run down the line to double the advantage to 7-1. He went 3-for-5 with five RBI on the day. He finished the event with a league-leading nine RBI.
 
In the seventh, the Bison tacked on four runs. Joey Pledger singled home Brock Carter; PJ Harris drove in two with a double and Gozzo plated Harris with a single.
 
Each of the top six hitters in the Oklahoma Baptist lineup – McKee, Harris, Gozzo, Enriquez, Eric Carlons and Kaimana Bartolome – collected at least two hits. Harris and Gozzo each drove in two runs while McKee scored three times.

In addition to Lipetzky, Gozzo, Harris, Carlson and Enriquez made the All-Tournament Team. Ryder Yakel, Ben Brauss and Connor Kelly earned spots from Harding. Arkansas-Monticello's Andrew Piraino and Hunter Huckabee plus Arkansas Tech's Isaac Hale and Jonathon Arrieta filled out the 12-member team.
 
The Bison won their four GAC Championship games by a combined 39-15 margin. They hit .368 in the four contests with seven home runs and 11 doubles. Conversely, the Bison pitching staff gave up only one five extra-base hits and held opponents to a .241 average.
 
Oklahoma Baptist earns its second-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Bison will learn their postseason fate during Sunday's selection show. It airs on NCAA.com at 9 p.m. Arkansas-Monticello stands in line to earn an at-large bid. The Weevils began the GAC Championships ranked fourth in the Central Region.
