OKLAHOMA BAPTIST SHUTS OUT SWOSU TO WIN #theGAC WOMEN’S SOCCER TITLE

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist’s Tori Kitchel delivered a strike from outside the penalty box in the 57th minute to provide the lone goal in the final of the 2021 Great American Conference Women’s Soccer Championships. The Bison claimed their second conference title in program history.
The Bison (13-5-1) outshot the Bulldogs (13-6-1) 15-11 and allowed only two shots on goal. They became the second-straight GAC champion to win the final on the opposition’s home field.
Kitchel earned Tournament MVP honors after scoring a total of four goals at the Championships. She registered the first hat trick in GAC Championship history in the Bison’s 5-2 semifinal win against Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday. Asley Baker, Maddison Williams, Abigail Parker and Kimmy McKinney joined Kitchel on the All-Tournament Team.
Tianna Watkins, Nicole Petrino and Elizabeth Moreno represented the Bulldogs on the All-Tournament Team. Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Tiara Campbell and Caitlyn Bidart plus Ouachita’s Abbey Moore & Jaymee Dotson filled out the 12-member team.
The Bison earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships. The Bulldogs entered the week ranked eighth. The selection show streams on NCAA.com at 5 p.m.
