NINE’S OVERTIME GOAL WINS #theGAC WOMEN’S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP FOR OUACHITA

 SHAWNEE, Okla. – Frankie Nine’s 100th-minute corner kick found its way into the back of net to give Ouachita a 1-0 overtime victory against top-seeded Oklahoma Baptist and the title at the 2021 GAC Women’s Soccer Spring Championships on Saturday from the OBU Soccer Complex.
 
Saturday’s final represented the fourth time in 10 years that the GAC title game to go to overtime and second won by a golden goal. Oklahoma Baptist’s Hannah White won the 2018 Championship with a goal in the 93rd minute.
 
The Bison (7-2-2) outshot the Tigers (8-3-1) 20-8 in regulation, but Ouachita pressured the Oklahoma Baptist defense throughout the overtime session, putting all six shots it attempted on frame. Bison goalkeeper Mia Pendleton made 10 saves in the losing effort.
 
The Tigers became the first GAC champion since their victory in 2014 to go through the entire tournament without surrendering a goal. Michele Snow made five saves on Saturday and completed the tournament with 290 minutes of scoreless goalkeeping.
 
After appearing in the final of the three of the first four GAC Women’s Soccer Championship finals, Saturday represented the first finals berth since 2014 for the Tigers. On the contrast, the Bison have made each of the last four title contests.
 
Tiger midfielder Jaymee Dotson earned Tournament MVP honors. She scored the winning goal against Southern Nazarene in the semifinals. Snow, Meagan North, Erica Gaddie and Ashlyn Lynch joined Dotson on the All-Tournament Team.
 
Pendleton, White and Kimmy McKinney represented the Bison on the All-Tournament Team. East Central’s tandem of Jocelyn Caracheo and Mollie Nance plus Southern Nazarene’s Alejandra Andrade and Maci Attalla rounded out the 12-member team.
