SOUTHEASTERN KNOCKS OFF OUACHITA TO ADVANCE AT #theGAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southeastern Oklahoma State scored in five of six innings as the Savage Storm collected a 9-2 win against Ouachita in Friday’s fourth quarterfinal contest of the Great American Conference Under Armour Softball Championships from Tiger Athletic Complex.
Trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the third inning, the Savage Storm (35-10) scored eight times over the subsequent four innings. In the fourth Cheyenne Mahy put Southeastern in front for the first time of the game with a two-run double. Kyia Monahwee extended the Southeastern advantage to 4-2 with a solo home run.
Peyton Streetman and Kamarie Wallace combined to drive in the Savage Storm’s final five runs. A fourth-inning single by Streetman produced the fifth run. An inning later, a Wallace sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 6-2. In the sixth, Streetman singled in Bailey Beard and Wallace doubled home Mahy and Streetman. Streetman finished 3-for-3 while Mahy and Wallace each drove in three runs.
The Savage Storm tandem of Mahy, the league’s Newcomer of the Year, and Amberlyn Walsworth, the Freshman of the Year worked all seven innings in the circle. Mahy started and went the first 3.0 innings. Walsworth entered in the fourth inning and tossed 4.0 scoreless frames with four strikeouts to earn her 17th win.
The top three in the Ouachita (20-18) lineup – Hope Waid, Heather Brown and Sloane Precure – combined to go 6-for-11 with two RBI. The rest of the lineup produced just two hits in 16 at bats.
Southeastern Oklahoma State advances to Saturday’s second semifinal matchup. The Savage Storm will take on Harding at 3:00 p.m. The Lady Bisons closed out the regular season with a three-game sweep of the Savage Storm.
