TECH POWERS PAST SOUTHERN NAZARENE AT #theGAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

 BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech slugged three home runs as part of a 13-0 victory against Southern Nazarene in the opening quarterfinal contest of the Great American Conference Under Armour Softball Championships on Friday from Tiger Athletic Complex.
 
Makenzie Goins, who hit only two home runs in the regular season, hit home runs in each of her two at bats to lead the Golden Sun (26-14-1) offense. Her three-run shot in the first inning capped a five-run frame. Her two-run blast an inning later pushed the Tech advantage to 10-0.
 
Caitlyn Wells hit the Golden Suns' third long ball of the game, a three-run home run in the third inning. Both Wells and Goins finished the game with five RBI. Tymber Riley reached base all three times at the plate and scored three runs.
 
Shannon Lasey opened with four no-hit innings in the circle for the Golden Suns. She finished with a one-hit shutout and improved to 10-5. Brooklyn Sparkman suffered the loss for the Crimson Storm (20-20).
 
Friday's game represented the final game in the Southern Nazarene coaching career for Tere Webber. She earlier announced 2021 would be her final season. She accumulated 436 wins in her 17 seasons.
 
Arkansas Tech advances to Saturday's opening semifinal matchup. The Golden Suns will take on either Southern Arkansas or Arkansas-Monticello at 12:30 p.m.
