NORTHWESTERN ELIMINATES SWOSU; EARNS FIRST TRIP TO #theGAC VOLLEYBALL FINAL

SHAWNEE, Oklahoma - Northwestern Oklahoma State took the court in the Great American Conference Volleyball Championships against their rivals, Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Rangers played outstanding offense and defense to top the Bulldogs in a five-set match. Addison Wimmer led the team with 20 kills. Cameron Lobb collected 42 assists and Andrea Coady accumulated 22 digs. Wimmer and Tarra Parks picked up another double-double for the tournament. The win sends the Rangers to the championship for the first time in program history.
The Rangers capitalized on Southwestern's errors to propel them into an early lead. Addison Wimmer and Ravyn Burns contributed a kill each to Northwestern's 4-2 lead. Courtney Russell fired off a middle kill to the corner. The team evenly spread their points out with a solo block and kill from Tarra Parks which extended their lead 8-4. Wimmer contributed another kill to push Southwestern into a timeout at 11-6. Out of the timeout, Andrea Coady came up with a service ace and russell contributed another kill. The Bulldogs closed the gap to 14-10 and forced a Ranger timeout. Southwestern scored seven of the next 11 points to forced anoher Ranger timeout . Out of the break, the Bulldogs scored six of the subsequent seven points for a 23-19 and an eventual 25-20 win in the set.
Southwestern opened the second set on a 6-1 start and eventually built a 9-3 lead. From there, the Rangers scored eight straight to take the lead, 11-9. Up 13-11, Northwestern came up with another run for a 19-11 advantage. Parks had four of her seven kills in that stretch. After Southwestern ended the run from a kill, Northwestern wasted zero time answering back and closing out the second set. Northwestern had two blocks each coming from Carmae Jones and a service ace by Parks to win the set.
Unlike the first two sets the third started with both teams going back and forth not letting either team open a lead greater than two points until Jones notched a kill and and block assist for an 11-8 Ranger lead. The Bulldogs drew to within one, 14-13, before the Rangers pushed its lead to four, 17-13. Up 17-15, the Rangers finished the set with a flourish by winning eight of the final 10 points, capped. by a back row kill from Wimmer.
After the Rangers scored the first two points of the fourth set, Southwestern seized control of the fourth set with four-straight points and a 7-4 lead. The Rangers twice pulled to within a point but the Bulldogs never surrendered the lead in the set and forced the fifth set with a 25-20 set four win.
In the fifth set, a kill from Wimmer and an ace from Lobb gave the the Rangers a 5-3 lead. The Bulldogs countered by winning for the next five points for a 7-6 lead. After tying the set, the Rangers regained the lead by scoring four-straight. SWOSU answered and drew to within one, 11-10. The Rangers turned to Wimmer to close out the match and she responded with three kills and a 15-12 win.
The Rangers snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Bulldogs and became the second-lowest seed to reach the finals of the GAC Championships.
