OUACHITA BAPTIST FENDS OFF EAST CENTRAL IN FIVE-SET TUSSLE AT #theGAC QUARTERFINALS

SHAWNEE, Oklahoma – In dramatic fashion, Ouachita Baptist picked up its first win at the Great American Conference Volleyball Championships since 2018 as the Tigers took down fifth-seeded East Central in five sets (27-25, 25-20, 16-25, 23-35, 15-12) to advance to the semifinals.

The Tigers had three scorers reach double-digit kills, led by Haley Fairchild who racked up 17 kills on a .351 hitting percentage. GAC Freshman of the Year Riley Braziel closely followed with 16. Kayla Steinmeyer added 10 kills.

Four Tigers put up double-digit points as well, led by Fairchild with 17.5 and Braziel with 16. Steinmeyer totaled 11 and Emily Adams added 10.

Two Tigers, Braziel and Courtney Hanson recorded double doubles. Braziel added 11 digs while Hanson tallied 45 assists and 18 digs.

Adams paced led the front-line defense with four blocks. Karli Ferguson and Steinmeyer each recorded two.

Lexie Castillow led the defenders with 27 digs. Joni Schneider notched 17.

The Tigers take on top-seeded Harding at 5 p.m. on Friday. Ouachita seeks its first appearance in the final.
