ROGERS STATE DEFEATS FORT HAYS STATE TO REACH #theGAC/MIAA FINAL

BETHANY, Okla. – Second seeded Rogers State took down No. 3 Fort Hays State in a 2-1 victory in the semifinal round on Thursday to advance to the GAC/MIAA Championship final for the third time in four years.
In a meeting of two regionally-ranked teams - No. 10 for the Tigers, No. 12 for the Hillcats - two Hillcats (10-3-6) found their way onto the scoresheet in the win. Grant King scored his fourth goal of the season while George Robinson netted his fifth. First-Team All-GAC/MIAA goalkeeper Declan Viljoen played incredibly in goal as he made two saves on nine shots faced.
RSU dominated the opening 45 minutes of the match. They outshot the Tigers (8-5-6) 11-5 with seven shots on goal compared to three. In the 27th minute, Grant King made an outstanding diving header off a deflected shot from George Robinson to break the scoreless tie and give the Hillcats an early lead.
The Hillcats continued to pour on the pressure in the second half. They outshot FHSU 15-4 with four shots on goal compared to just one. In the 55th minute, on one of the Tigers few offensive changes, Tyler Lockhart found the back of the net for the equalizer to knot things at 1-1. However, just three minutes later, Robinson answered back by firing the game-winning shot off the underside of the crossbar that bounced into the net on the rebound to give the Hillcats the 2-1 victory.
RSU will face off against the winner of No. 1 Southern Nazarene and No. 4 Northeastern State in the tournament championship on Sunday, Nov. 6. Kickoff is set 1 p.m. and will be streamed live on the GAC Network.
