HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – In the opening round of play at the 2022 Great American Conference Women’s Golf Championships all five of Henderson State’s golfers finished inside the top 10 as the Reddies built up a 16-shot lead on Sunday on the Park Course at Hot Springs Country Club.

Daphney Tilton recorded the low round of the day for the Reddies, an even-par 72. Her opening round began with 13 straight pars before a birdie on the 14th hole. Following two bogeys, she capped her round with a birdie on the 18th hole. Gracen Blount, the league’s Player of the Year posted a 1-over 73 to end the day in third. She recorded four birdies during the round. Hannah Choi shot a 2-over to take fourth. She made three-straight birdies on holes 3-4-5. Allie Bianchi’s 3-over 75 left her in a tie for fifth and Karen Lee’s 5-over 77 positioned her in a tie for eighth.
Arkansas Tech placed second, two shots clear of Southwestern Oklahoma State. Jacqueline Klemm produced the lone under-par round of the day as she made four birdies against only one bogey for a 3-under 69 - the lowest first-round score in GAC Women’s Championship history.
Two Bulldogs ended Sunday inside the top 10. Rebecca Lau carded a 3-over 75 to share fifth place and Drew Dodgion registered a 5-over 77. She shared eighth with the Reddies’ Lee. Harding took fourth led by the trio of Brenda Sanchez, Alicia Martinez and Abbey Bryan. All posted rounds of 6-over 78 to finish in a tie for 10th.
Arkansas-Monticello ended in fifth while Oklahoma Baptist and Southern Arkansas tied for sixth. The Blossoms’ Gabriela Maldonado shot a 6-over 78 to join the three Lady Bisons in a tie for 10th. SAU’s Mackenzy Turner notched a pair of birdies en route to a 3-over 75 that positioned her in a tie for fifth.
Northwestern Oklahoma State and Southern Nazarene rounded out the team standings.
Monday’s second round begins at 8 a.m.
