RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the men’s soccer players of the week for the ninth week of the 2023 season. Southern Nazarene swept the honors Unaiz Shajani earned Offensive Player; Alvaro Sanchez won Defender and Andrej Krivokapic claimed Goalkeeper as the Crimson Storm secured the league’s regular-season title.
#theGAC/MIAA MEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Unaiz Shajani, F, Southern Nazarene, Jr., Nairobii, Kenya
Shajani reached the 30-point milestone for the second-straight season after he scored a second-half goal against Ouachita Baptist and came up with his third brace of the season against Harding. He opened the scoring on a 33rd-minute tally. He gave the Crimson Storm a 3-0 advantage in the 61st minute.
#theGAC/MIAA MEN’S SOCCER DEFENDER OF THE WEEK – Alvaro Sanchez, D, Southern Nazarene, Sr., Toledo, Spain
Sanchez scored his second Defender of the Week accolade in the last three weeks as Southern Nazarene surrendered just one goal across two dominating wins. The Crimson Storm defense held the Tigers to just five total shots and three on frame in the 4-1 win. The stingy defense limited the Bisons to only one shot as part of a 5-0 home win.
#theGAC/MIAA MEN’S SOCCER GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK – Andrej Krivokapic, GK, Southern Nazarene, Fr., Niksic, Montenegro
Krivokapic picked up his third Goalkeeper of the Week award after he recorded a 0.50 goals-against average in the contests with Ouachita Baptist and Harding. He came up with a pair of saves in the 4-1 victory against the Tigers. He registered his six shutout of the season as the Crimson Storm shut out the Bisons, 5-0.
