RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The 2024 Great American Conference Women’s Tennis Championships opens Thursday from Memorial Park in Bentonville, Arkansas. Southeastern Oklahoma State and Southern Arkansas enter as the top two seeds.
Thursday’s first-round games, both set for 2 p.m. starts, feature two sets of rivals in Henderson State against Ouachita Baptist and Arkansas Tech against Harding. The Golden Suns defeated the Lady Bisons on Saturday to finish the regular season. Harding has won both previous meetings at the GAC Championships with the most-recent encounter coming in 2017. The Reddies extended their win streak against the Tigers to 20 by claiming a pair of 6-1 wins during the regular season. The two have never met at the GAC Championships.
The winners advance to Friday’s semifinals to take on top-seeded Southeastern Oklahoma State and second-seeded Southern Arkansas. The Savage Storm play the Arkansas Tech-Harding winner. Southeastern defeated Tech, 4-0, and Harding, 6-1, during the regular season. The Muleriders defeated the Reddies, 4-3, and the Tigers, 5-2, during the regular season.
The two semifinal victors will face off at noon on Saturday with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships on the line.
