WEEVILS JUMP ON MISSOURI SOUTHERN EARLY, ADVANCE TO SUPER REGIONAL

JOPLIN, Mo. - A six-run second inning jumpstarted Arkansas-Monticello to an 11-4 victory against second-seeded Missouri Southern as the Weevils completed un undefeated run through the NCAA Division II Central Regional.

Roc Hawthorne, Kirk Woolf and Chase Cripps each drove in two runs in the second inning. After the Lions pulled to within two after a four-run fourth inning, the Weevils answered back with three runs of their own. Chaz Poppy produced a run scoring double; Chase Cripps drove in his third run of the game with a sacrifice play and Cade Cancilla doubled home Poppy.

Dylan Vail and Kyle Roop pitched 5.0 scoreless innings in relief of Maxim Mrakovcic. Vail threw 4.0 innings of no-run, one-hit baseball. Roop closed out the win with a hitless ninth inning. Mrakovcic struck out seven during his 4.0 innings of work. 

Woolf hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning as part of a four-RBI game. He scored three runs. Hawthorne and Camden Tanner scored twice.

The Weevils join Southern Arkansas, in 2022, as the two GAC programs to reach the super regional round of the DII Baseball Champonships. The format began in 2019, but the tournament was not contested in 2020 due to COVID-19 and the tournament reverted to a single-weekend format in 2021.

UAM faces Central Missouri in the Super Regional beginning Friday.
