SWOSU’S SALA, REDDIES MAINTAIN LEADS AT #theGAC WOMEN’S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

 FORT SMITH, Arkansas – For the second-straight day, Henderson State posted the low team score at the 2025 Great American Conference Women’s Golf Championships at Hardscrabble Country Club as the Reddies extended their lead to 15 shots on Tuesday. Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Freya Sala continued to lead the individual competition.

The Reddies shaved five shots off their first-round score as they shot 15-over par 295. GAC Player of the Year Felisa Sajulga carded the low round of the day, a 1-over 71, to move into a second-place tie at 6-over. Lily Nelson joined her at 6-over following a 3-over 73.Paulina Narvaez made the biggest move up the leaderboard as she climbed from a tie for 22nd into a tie for sixth following a 2-over 72. She eagled the par-5 third hole and made two birdies on the back nine. Cloe Poizac shot a 79.

Harding moved up two places into second place after the Lady Bisons cut 10 shots of their first-round score with a 20-over 300. Sarah Kmiecik collected four birdies as part of a 2-over 72. Pilar Martinez jumped from 24th to 10 after she posted a 3-over 73. Sydney Kincade shot a 78 to finish in a tie with Narvaez for sixth and Cooper Meyer added a 77.

For the second-straight day, Southwestern Oklahoma State and Arkansas Tech each shot 29-over 309s. Sala’s round included two birdies on the front nine and a round-capping birdie on the par-4 18th hole. Drew Dodgion finished in a tie for 10th after a second-round 77. Jaylee Castro produced the Golden Suns’ low round, a 4-over 74. She moved up nine spots into a tie for eighth. Kylie Rehberger and Averi Mickelson posted matching 77s.

Northwestern Oklahoma State and Arkansas-Monticello swapped positions with the Rangers moving into fifth place. A second-round 77 from Northwestern’s Romane Lacoste left her as part of the six-way tie for 10th. Shehna Akbary and Tori Milton maintained positions inside the top 10. After three double bogeys on the front nine, Akbary bounced back with three birdies on the back nine.

Southeastern Oklahoma State caught Southern Arkansas for a tie for seventh. Karen Kim birdied three front-nine holes in a four-hole stretch as part of a 3-over 73. She climbed 10 spots into 16th. Carly Button’s 77 positioned her in 10th.

Oklahoma Baptist and Southern Nazarene rounded out the team leaderboard. The Bison’s Morgan SImmons remained in second place after she made four birdies. A four-over 74 has her two shots behind Sala.

Wednesday’s final round tees off at 8 a.m. Play begins off the 10th hole with Southeastern Oklahoma State, Oklahoma Baptist  and Southern Nazarene  in the first five groups. The Bison’s Simmons tees off at 8:32 a.m. Groups featuring Henderson State, Harding, Arkansas Tech and Southwestern Oklahoma State start at 9:28 a.m. Sala, Sajulga and Kmiecik make up three-fourths of the final group.  They start at 9:52 a.m.
