REDDIES TIE FOR 10TH, SWOSU'S DODGION TIES FOR 13TH AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
BOULDER CITY, Nevada — Henderson State shot their best round as a team today in the third round of the NCAA Division 2 Golf Championship at Boulder Creek Golf Club, but it was not enough to advance to the match play portion of the tournament.
HSU finishes the tournament in 10th place, which secured their fourth straight year with a top ten finish in Division 2 nationally, one of only three schools to accomplish that feat.
The Reddies shot a 1-over 289 on Thursday, led by Lily Nelson and Paulina Narvaez, who each shot a 1-under par 71 for the day. Nelson finished 15th place individually after her second consecutive round under par. The junior again birdied three of her first nine holes on the day.
Narvaez shot 19 spots up the individual leaderboard, shooting six strokes less than Wednesday's round. The 71 was her best round of the championship.
Felisa Sajulga fired a 1-over par 73 on the day. Her round was highlighted by an eagle on the par 5 second hole. Madolyn Kost recorded a 2-over 74, good for her best round of the championship as well. Cloe Poizac rounded out the day's scores with a 77.
Southwestern Oklahoma Stat senior women's golfer Drew Dodgion made a significant climb up the leaderboard in the final round of the NCAA Championships and of her collegiate career, carding a third round 66 (-6) to finish tied for 13th place in the tournament.
Dodgion's 66 was the lowest round posted by any SWOSU women's golfer at any NCAA postseason tournament – regional or national championship – and sets a new conference record for lowest round score at the championship tournament. She moved up 31 spots from her 44th-place tie at the start of the final round. Six golfers at the tournament achieved a score of 66 or lower.
Dodgion's final round was a strong performance throughout, with two eagles and birdies, and no scores worse than par. She started strong with a birdie and eagle on holes 1 and 2, replicated the feat on holes 15 and 16 while playing all other holes to even par.
Consistency defined Dodgion's performance on Boulder Creek Golf Course. She recorded 39 pars, tied for fifth most in the tournament. Her three eagles tied for the most in the tournament.
Arkansas Tech put the finishing touches on their 2024-25 season on Thursday in the final round of stroke play at the DII National Championship Tournament. In their final round on Thursday, the Golden Suns turned in their best round of the tournament as a team as they collectively shot five-over (293). Sophomore Jaylee Castro was the lowest score of the round as she shot a one-under (71). Her final round saw her drop 10 strokes from her second round and was consistent with 12 pars, three birdies and two bogeys.
Behind Castro on Thursday was Ellen Spigner. The junior would shoot even-par (72) for the second-straight round. That helped Spigner finish as the highest Golden Sun on the individual leaderboard as she tied for 32nd with a three-round score of one-over (217).
The final three golfers in Tech's lineup, Averi Mickelson, Kylie Rehberger and Mekky Winyarat, all shot three-over (75) in the final round. That helped all three improve on the individual leaderboard to finish their first time at the national championship.
