BENTONVILLE, Arkansas – Following the opening round of the 2025 Great American Conference Women’s Tennis Championships, the league held its awards social. Southern Arkansas’ Amelie Gindl won Player of the Year and Maria Fiacan captured Newcomer of the Year. Henderson State’s Angela Dorado Marin claimed Freshman of the Year and Ouachita Baptist’s Kourtney Chumbley garnered Coach of the Year. Arkansas Tech’s Meaghan Butler and Henderson State’s Angela Georgieva received the GAC Elite Scholar Athlete - Presented By Conway Regional Health System - award.
2025 ALL-GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE TENNIS TEAMS
Gindl and Fiacan helped the Muleriders secure their first outright regular-season title since 2019. Gindl recorded a 15-5 record from the No. 1 position - 5-0 against GAC opponents. She finished the season as the ITA’s No. 4 ranked player in Division II. Fiacan matched Gindl with an unblemished mark in GAC play. The two partnered together to go 11-6 as a doubles team.
Dorado Marin won 12 of 15 singles matches, primarily playing at the Reddies’ No. 5 player. She added an 11-7 record in doubles play with Adiya Abdugappar. Chumbley guided the Tigers to a 10-10 overall record, their best record in the GAC era.
Gindl, Ouachita Baptist’s Sadbaroy Kholdarova and Harding’s Alexia Zarate Valdez made the First Team by unanimous consent. Zarate Valdez, the No. 12 singles player in Division II, went 12-7 in singles play and paired with fellow First-Team selection Karli Roux to go 12-8 as the Lady Bisons’ top doubles team. Kholdarova, the 2024 GAC Freshman of the Year, compiled a 16-3 at the Tigers’ top singles player. She teamed up with Natalia Zamora to form Ouachita’s No. 1 doubles team. The duo went 10-8.
Fiacan and Josie Holderbach gave the champion Muleriders three First-Team selections. Holderbach, the No. 34 singles player in Division II put together a 17-4 singles record. Like Gindl and Fiacan, she did not drop a conference contest.
Jenna Kate Bohnert and Kristina Kozlova represented Henderson State on the First Team. As the Reddies’ top doubles team, they went 13-5. In singles play, Kozlova owned a 10-6 record from the No. 1 spot while Bohnert went 13-4 between the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Two from Southeastern Oklahoma State made the First Team in Emilse Ruiz and Milana Voloshyn. Ruiz played on four different lines during the course of the season and finished with a 15-4 singles record. Voloshyn won 12 of her 17 singles matches.
In singles play, Roux went 13-4 from the No. 2 position.
The All-GAC Second Team consisted of Dorado Marin, Arkansas Tech’s Elis Gergel and Maria Krite, Harding’s Sofi Sarmiento and Madison Stafford; Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Jou Chen Chen and Sara Gonzalez, Ouachita Baptist’s Zamora and Southern Arkansas’ Ifigeneia Kafka.
A total of 25 standouts placed on the GAC Academic Honor Roll Team in Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Larissa Giraldi Correa, Laura Sofia Sachica Ramos, Tania Sfilio, Amishi Shukla and Milana Voloshyn; SAU’s Gindl, Josie Holderbach, Roksana Kokocha, Inna Serpukhova and Amber Young; Arkansas Tech’s Gergel, Nabilah Dunn, Melanie Griffiths and Maggie Holcomb; Harding’s Sarmiento Ruiz, Stafford, Zarate Valdez and Natalia Alvarez; Ouachita Baptist’s Zamora, Marlee Bledsoe, Ali May and Ruxandra Tolescu; Henderson State’s Bohnert, Kozlova and Lily Winter.
