OKLAHOMA BAPTIST’S DIXON NAMED #theGAC MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – On Thursday, the Great American Conference named Oklahoma Baptist track & field national champion Sean Dixon as its 2024-25 Male Athlete of the Year.

Dixon became the first Bison honored as the league’s top male athlete and the second track & field player recognized as the Male Athlete of the Year. Harding’s Dorian Chaigneau earned the award in 2021. Two Bisons won the Female Athlete of the Year in tennis All-American Kim Moosbacher, who won in 2019-20 and softball standout Kayleigh Jones, who earned the award in 2022-23.

Dixon Became the first Bison track and field member to win a Division II National Championship as he crossed the line in first in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 49.54 seconds. He ran personal-best in the event.He ran the fastest time at the NCAA Championships since 2022. The USTFCCA lauded him as a First Team All-American. At the GAC Championships, he won the title in the 400 and placed third in the 200. He ran the opening leg of the 4x400 relay team that placed third.

Other nominees for the 2024-25 GAC Male Athlete of the Year award included Arkansas-Monticello’s Chaz Poppy (Baseball), Arkansas Tech’s Cassius Brooks (Basketball), East Central’s Paul Korir (Cross Country/Track & Field), Harding’s Maddox Long (Baseball), Henderson State’s Payton Byrd (Baseball), Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Camron McDowell (Basketball), Ouachita Baptist’s Miles Schulze (Men’s Swimming), Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Wesley Mitchell (Baseball), Southern Arkansas’ Judd Barton (Football), Southern Nazarene’s Unaiz Shajani (Men’s Soccer) and Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Bodi Waller (Baseball).
