The Great American Conference men's soccer season kicked off with preseason United Soccer Coaches' top-10 programs Fort Hays State and Rogers State comprising the 2026 inaugural player of the week honorees.

No. 3 Fort Hays State (1-1, 0-0 GAC) opened the year with a statement victory over No. 13 Rockhurst, 4-1. No. 6 Rogers State (2-0, 0-0 GAC) equally impressed over the weekend with a pair of victories, including a shutout win over 2025 GLVC Tournament Runner-Up (RV) McKendree, 1-0.

Ouachita Baptist joined the Hillcats as the only two conference schools to start 2-0 with a 1-0 victory over Union before downing NCCAA opponent Ecclesia College, 5-0. Newman (1-1, 0-0 GAC), Northeastern St. (1-1, 0-0 GAC) and Southern Nazarene (1-1, 0-0 GAC) each also got in the win column on opening week.  

Teams will continue competing in their non-conference slate before conference play begins Thursday, Sept. 17.

GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE MEN'S SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE
Francisco Degiorgi | Fort Hays State | FWD | Jr. | Lisbon, Portugal
Fort Hays State junior forward Francisco Degiorgi catapulted No. 3 FHSU to a week-one statement victory over No. 13 Rockhurst after recording one goal and one assist, leading to the 4-1 victory. Degorgio played 59 minutes against RU before staying on the field all 90 minutes against Regis two days later.

DEFENSIVE
Alex Fletcher | Rogers State | DEF | Sr. | Pontefract, England
Rogers State senior defender Alex Fletcher scored the game-winning goal against (RV) McKendree in the 63rd minute before ending his week with an assist on No. 6 RSU's first goal against (RV) Maryville as part of a 3-1 victory. Between the two matches, the Hillcats allowed just one goal.

GOALKEEPER
Tristan Miller | Rogers State | GK | Fr. | Cape Town, South Africa
Rogers State freshman goalkeeper Tristan Miller started off his collegiate campaign with a bang, shutting out (RV) McKendree, 1-0, before holding Maryville to just one goal for the 3-1 triumph. Miller posted 10 saves on the week - five coming in each outing.
